Rhoby 0.5 or Born to be micRhoby

Hello for everyone!

So many time passed from my last post here. I think is a good time to write about my work and projects.

My work in social robotics field started from Rhoby 0.5 project.  It was funny and small robot with two motors and some basic sensors.

Next serious step in social robotics – Rhoby 1.0, complex and useful robot which will be assistant for kids in learning some disciplines like foreign languages or geometry.

But how I said above – Rhoby 1.0 is a complex project and I need now less difficult projects and tasks, which will give me possibilities to make small steps for building something big . That sounds like very efficient way in my case.

So, let me explain you about “sidekick” for Rhoby – micRhoby.

Motors is here

Few days ago I received by postal service small orange packet with my motors for the Rhoby project, and today I found a time for write this post and uncover some plans about.

Next stage of the Rhoby project will be built on 4-wheeled platform, this will give more mobility and versatility for the robot.  Size of the robot will be around  35 cm in height and diameter is 13 cm. Next few weeks I’ll spend on completing the prototype of the first stage.

Some design concept

Rhoby is a companion robot which designed to interact with people for the purpose of teaching them new skills in the fields of exact sciences, philology, etc.

Rhoby has a two arms, one for the pencil, second for the “tablet” – LCD which displays a status of teaching assignment.

Head of the robot consist of OLED-display for eyes animation – one of the methods emotional communication with human, plus on the “face” is placed a speaker for verbal communication. On top of the head two antennas which actually is a microphones for hearing and determining the direction of the sound source.
