Rhoby 0.5 or Born to be micRhoby

Hello for everyone!

So many time passed from my last post here. I think is a good time to write about my work and projects.

My work in social robotics field started from Rhoby 0.5 project.  It was funny and small robot with two motors and some basic sensors.

Next serious step in social robotics – Rhoby 1.0, complex and useful robot which will be assistant for kids in learning some disciplines like foreign languages or geometry.

But how I said above – Rhoby 1.0 is a complex project and I need now less difficult projects and tasks, which will give me possibilities to make small steps for building something big . That sounds like very efficient way in my case.

So, let me explain you about “sidekick” for Rhoby – micRhoby.

Rhoby project (ver. 0.5b)

Rhoby – open-source platform for creating a small social robots.
This robotics platform ideal for learning kids to programming and electronics. But most important what is it very useful for teaching “special” kids, with autism syndrome for example.

PyTXTquest or my way to Python

In one moment I realized that for my future projects I need new knowledge (obviously). And programming language was one of. Have spent some time by searching and reading numerous publications, I understood that programming language which I needed is a Python.

Motors is here

Few days ago I received by postal service small orange packet with my motors for the Rhoby project, and today I found a time for write this post and uncover some plans about.

Next stage of the Rhoby project will be built on 4-wheeled platform, this will give more mobility and versatility for the robot.  Size of the robot will be around  35 cm in height and diameter is 13 cm. Next few weeks I’ll spend on completing the prototype of the first stage.

CNC Router quick update

When we started this project with my friend, we have very ambitious ideas and we made a big mistake – began right off built a big CNC machine without any experience in these field.

One of the main problem is twisting of the gantry.

If you look at the picture, you can see white contour which shows the location of the gantry bulk, Z-axis moving along this beam. Violet arrow show the shoulder between bulk and weight(red contour around milling tool) on the Z-axis. Plus, Z-axis itself have a big height (green arrow). All this construction’s “features” giving a twisting gantry while X-axis or Z-axis moves.

Now I try to solve this problem using little changes in assembly of the Z-axis.

Stay tuned.

Work in progress

Work in progress. Our first CNC machine on the way to be working tool. Now our main aim is calibrating all axis mechanical and program.

Few words about watches.

Ever since my first digital watches were presented me on eighth birthday, I fallen in love with watches. I own various types – quartz, digital, mechanical.

Last few years wearable electronics has becoming more popular, especially «smartwatches». And I started to look at this kind of watches, but I, similar to some other people, do not like the far-fetched concept of this kind devices. Continue reading
